Scott Hamlin's work with Databases:
FileMaker
I am the primary support person for academic projects that involve FileMaker Pro. Currently, Wheaton is using IRIS, a database implemented in FMP and developed primarily at Brown University, for cataloging our Art Slide Library collection. In addition to supporting the use of IRIS, I designed and support the use of a multi-table database in FileMaker called "Collections," which is related to several tables in IRIS and is used to catalog objects in Wheaton's Art collection.
I have worked on a number of additional FileMaker projects including creating a database for tracking faculty computer placements and supporting a professor who maintains several FMP databases for his Visual Sociology students to work on. When I first began working at Wheaton, I created a Filemaker Pro database to help faculty with their own projects and Digital Asset Management. (We still have a long way to go in this area.)
MySQL
More recently, I have been working with MySQL. I created a couple webforms for reporting consultations in the library that feed into a MySQL database. And I have been experimenting with several open source applications (like MDID, Mediawiki, and WordPress) that use MySQL as the backend database.
